More people are listening to Newstalk followig the station's major schedule revamp, the latest JNLR figures have found. 

The survey revealed that around 167,000 people tune into The Pat Kenny Show on Saturdays, making it the most listened to weekend show in Newstalk’s history. 

122,000 also listen to The Pat Kenny Show on Sunday, an increase of 3,000 since the last JNLR survey. 

There has also been growth for Newstalk Breakfast, with Anton Savage and his team increasing their listenership by 10,000 people. 

210,000 people now listen to The Claire Byrne Show, up 4,000 since the last JNLR. 

Lunchtime Live with Andrea Gilligan increased their listenership by 1,000 to 115,000. 

While the Moncrieff show also grew their audience by 4,000 to 105,000. 

The Hard Shoulder with Ciara Kelly and Shane Coleman held their audience share with 153,000 listeners. 

Overall, Newstalk’s market share remains at 7.8%, with around four million adults in Ireland listening to radio every week. 

An average of 484,000 people tune into the station on a daily basis - up 18,000 since the last survey, while 855,000 listen in on a weekly basis - up 9,000. 

In a statement, Newstalk Managing Editor Eric Moylan described the figures as a “strong performance”. 

“It’s clear the audience likes what they hear and are moving the dial,” he said. 

“In the past three months we’ve seen more people tune in each weekday and across the weekend with impressive growth for Newstalk Breakfast, The Claire Byrne Show, Moncrieff and The Pat Kenny Show on Saturday and Sunday, where Pat has already set a record for the most listened to weekend programme in the station’s history.”
