Are your savings staying ahead of inflation?

Despite the cost-of-living crisis, figures show many Irish households are still building up savings – with the country’s deposit levels jumping 9.5% between 2022 and 2021.

While many people are understandably cautious with their cash, your money can’t grow if you leave it in a current account or savings account. Worse, with inflation remaining high, you are actually losing money when you leave it lying in your account.

Investing for more choices in your future

Bank of Ireland’s ‘Invested’ webinar series is here to show you how you can keep your future financial goals on track by investing some of your savings.  Whether that’s saving to send your kids to 3rd level education, planning a once in a lifetime round the world trip or simply building up a pot of money to give you more choices in your future.

One of the biggest barriers to investing is a lack of knowledge – with around 50% of people rating their understanding of investing as ‘poor.’

Meanwhile, just one-in-five people believe they have a good knowledge of investing, with men (33%) more likely than women (13%) to believe they know what they are doing.

Bank of Ireland’s three-part ‘Invested’ series can teach you all you need to get your money working for you.

Webinar One is a pre-recorded webinar that examines the basics of how investing works – taking you from beginner level and giving you a good understanding of the fundamentals.

‘The Why and How Of Investing – A Beginner’s Journey’ highlights how holding your money in a savings account is not enough to beat inflation.

The episode gives you the practical help you need to better understand your money, examine your goals and plan for better outcomes for you and your family.

Webinar Two How Many Eggs? And Which Baskets? – Investing To Stay Ahead Of Inflation took place on Wednesday, May 3rd  and is available to watch back on bankofireland.com/invested.  This webinar digs into what’s happening in today’s investment markets – with Bank of Ireland experts teaching you how to successfully stay ahead of inflation.

The episode focuses on that golden rule, ‘don’t put all of your eggs in one basket’ and discusses the key decisions investors should make when faced with global geo-political crises, high inflation and a huge choice of homes for their money.

Webinar Three focuses on a common savings goal for many parents – putting their kids through college.

‘Investing For Parents – Smart Ways To Prepare For Your Kids’ Education’ airs live on Wednesday, May 31st at 10am.

This episode sees the expert panel unpacking the costs of third-level education and explaining how investing and compound growth can help you build up your savings to smooth out the costs associated with 3rd Level education.
