A taxi driver has argued that the fuel retailers are still “ripping us off”, despite the package of tax cuts designed to cut the cost of fuel.
On Sunday, the Government announced an additional 10 cents cut on petrol and diesel, as well as a 2.4 cents cut on green diesel.
On The Claire Byrne Show, Minister Marian Harkin described it as the “best per capita in the EU”.
“Before Easter, all of the opposition was telling us about Poland and about Spain,” she explained.
“This is better per capita, the figures show that clearly.”
On Lunchtime Live, taxi driver Bill said he has seen one gauge come down by 10 cents and another by 16 cents.
However, he still doubts that the full amount has been passed onto consumers by retailers.
“I'd love to ask the Government and the people who are running the gouges, how come before this war, diesel was 20 cents cheaper than petrol and now is 20 cents dearer than petrol?” he asked.
“Like, they're ripping us off again.”
