Newstalk’s Inside The Crime series is looking for a new case to cover.
Hosted by Courts Correspondent Frank Greaney, Inside The Crime has previously delved into the tragic deaths of Sharon Whelan, Charles Self and Una Lynskey.
On The Pat Kenny Show, Mr Greaney said he believed true crime is an important “public service” form of journalism.
“I feel uncomfortable when people describe true crime podcasts and books as a form of entertainment,” he explained.
“It’s kind of a morbid curiosity, I think, when you go down that road.”

Mr Greaney continued that the more the public learn about an unsolved case, the greater chance there is that new information can be brought to light about it.
“You mentioned George Gibney, that is a fantastic example of when a podcast… does have a very positive influence on an investigation,” he said.
“People like myself, podcast producers and makers, I certainly don’t go out exclusively to solve the case.
“I’m not an investigator in that sense; I’m not a Garda.
“But I think what true crime podcasts can do - and certainly what the one in relation to George Gibney did - is raise public awareness and keep a story in the public arena.
“The larger the reach, the more potential you have for tip offs and things like that for people to come forward.” #

Mr Greaney appealed for anyone who is aware of an unsolved case in Ireland to get in touch.
“We’re particularly interested in cases that go back into the past - decades; cases that have maybe been forgotten through the kernels of time,” he said.
“Because you might be appealing to someone’s conscience years later; somebody who may have felt like they couldn’t come forward, back when it happened, for whatever reason, and that they may do, for whatever reason.”
