DIY expert Alan Grant has condemned those who leave bags on dog poo in  the Dublin Mountains.

Mr Grant said he was on a “fabulous walk” over the weekend but so much of it was blighted by unsightly litter.

“This weekend, I mean, there was a dozen here, half a dozen there, a dozen everywhere,” he recalled.

“They were all different colours; there were so many, I'd say if they glowed in the dark, it would be like Christmas up there at night time.”

Mr Grant noted that people who have bagged their dog poo people have already “done the really hard bit” and he fails to understand why they then don’t dispose of it properly.

“They tie a knot and then swing it into the hedge grouse or tie it on a tree,” he said.

“Like, it's unbelievably bad.”

Mr Grant continued that people have a “personal responsibility” to clean up after their dog.

“I think it's an education thing because I think when people buy these bags, it says compostable,” he said.

“It doesn't mean you can put the poo in it and just swing it wherever you want because the thing takes up to like six or eight months to compost.

“The idea of the bag is you can bring it home and put it in your own compostable bin.”
