Co Wicklow locals say there's "excitement in the air" in Enniskerry ahead of a major Disney film being shot there in the coming months.

Disenchanted - the sequel to 2007's Enchanted, starring Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey - is being shot in Ireland between May and August.

With the production team already looking for extras, the crew has also started transforming the picturesque village of Enniskerry into a film set.

Two locals spoke to Lunchtime Live about what has been happening in the village ahead of filming.

Melanie Corrigan - Councillor for Bray West and member of Wicklow tourism board - says the area has had film productions before, but nothing of this scale.

She said: “It’s really going to put us on the map… there’s such excitement in the air.

“For tourism in Co Wicklow, this is going to be going on for years. We still have people coming to see where Leap Year and PS I Love You were filmed.”

The village is being transformed for the shoot - with a castle set being built, one of the roads to be painted purple, and several shops to get new temporary fronts to suit the film's theme.

Councillor Corrigan praised the production team for being "incredible" when it comes to safety and COVID protocols.

She said the town has never seen as many visitors during the weekends, noting that people will be able to visit before and after filming gets underway.

"It’s going to be gorgeous"

The production will see the village closed off for a few days when filming is actually taking place, while there's plenty of construction work happening while the set is built.

However, Peter Northern - owner of Poppies café in Enniskerry - believes it's very much "short-term pain for long-term gain".

He said: "They’re doing a lot to make the village even prettier.

"They’re replacing stuff and painting stuff that probably wouldn’t have gotten painted or replaced normally. It’s going to be gorgeous now.

Amy Adams has been to Wicklow before, and locals hope they'll get to meet the Hollywood star and six-time Oscar nominee again while she's in town.

Peter said: “Amy Adams was in Leap Year… I did make her cappuccinos. Maybe I’ll make her another cappuccino this time.”
