Man in his 40s shot dead in west Dublin

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 40s was shot dead in west Dublin.

Officers in Lucan were called to the Foxdene area of Dublin 22 at around 2:15pm this afternoon.

The man, named locally as David Lynch, died after being shot a number of times in the front garden of a house.

The mother of three who was stabbed to death in her home in Clondalkin in Dublin this morning has been named locally.

Cathy Ward, who was in her early 40s, was found dead in an upstairs bedroom of the house at Greenfort Drive.

A man in his 50s arrested at the scene remains in Garda custody this evening.

Denis O'Brien loses defamation action against Sunday Business Post

Denis O’Brien has lost his defamation action against the Sunday Business Post.

The businessman had sued the newspaper over articles from March 2015 which were about a report into the Irish banks at the time of the financial crisis.

He said they portrayed him as one of the ‘developer kings’ who destroyed Ireland and bankrupted its banking system.

The Sunday Business Post denied defamation and said the articles didn’t mean what Mr O’Brien claimed.

John Downey ordered to surrender to Northern Ireland authorities

The High Court has ordered the surrender of John Downey to authorities in Northern Ireland, where he is wanted to face charges of murder.

An arrest warrant was issued after a decision was made to prosecute him for the murder of two British soldiers when an IRA car bomb exploded in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh in 1972.

Lance Corporal Alfred Johnston and Private James Eames from the Ulster Defence Regiment died when an IRA car bomb exploded.

Dublin family syndicate collects €175.4m Euromillions jackpot

A north Dublin family syndicate, who scooped Ireland's biggest ever Euromillions jackpot, have claimed their €175.4m prize.

The National Lottery has said the family from the Naul decided to keep their prize collection low-key.

They were presented with their winning cheque, from the February 19th draw, by National Lottery CEO Dermot Griffin on Thursday.
