Daniel O’Donnell has praised his “tremendous fans” as he announces the closure of his fan club after several decades.
The much loved singer once had between 20 and 30,000 members of his fan club.
However, the changing nature of modern communications means it has dwindled to just a few thousand.
“I suppose that everything that we are able to put into a fan club - bulletin and letters - people have all the information already with social media,” the Donegal man told Lunchtime Live.
“You know, the fan club started over 40 years ago and then it was invaluable because there was no social media, there was no way to contact people other than, I suppose, by post or by phone.
“And the fan club had a huge reach and was very important.”

At Christmas time, there would be a calendar and a card from Daniel.
“People know what I'm doing now nearly before I know I'm doing it myself,” Daniel added.
“And that's just the way the world is, you know.
“I suppose everything has its time and that's what we felt; it's run its course.”
Daniel praised his fans as “tremendous”, while admitting that some would be disappointed that the fan club had come to an end.
“But they understand, you know, the reasons behind it or the reasoning behind it,” he said.
