Sligo Rovers are on the way to their fourth cup final in the last five years after a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers at the Showgrounds.
Sligo went ahead in the first half through Danny Ventre and the teams remained closely matched until Conor McCormack sent Raf Cretaro to the ground when through on goal and referee Alan Kelly pointed to the spot. Kelly then put the final nail in the coffin of Shamrock Rovers hunt for FAI Cup number 25 when he showed McCormack the red card.
Alan Keane sent the resulting spot kick down the middle of Richard Brush’s goal and a late strike from substitute Anthony Elding sealed the game with a flourish for Sligo, who now prepare to meet Drogheda at the Aviva Stadium on November 3rd.
