Gardaí are looking to speak to a man known by a Brazilian woman found murdered in Limerick last week. 

On Friday morning, Gardaí were called out to a property on Lower Cecil Street, following a 999 call. 

There, they are understood to have made a forced entry into the apartment and discovered a woman’s body. 

On Newstalk Breakfast, local journalist David Raleigh said Gardaí knew straight away that the woman had not died of natural causes. 

“My sources say it was clear from the get-go that the woman had died a violent death, due to the nature of her injuries and the scene in general,” he explained. 

“Now, at that stage, Gardaí would only say they were investigating all circumstances of the woman's death. 

“Then, later on Friday evening, the woman was named locally as Jady Christine Pereira Rosa, who is a native of São Paulo in Brazil.”

It is understood she was 33-years-old at the time of her death and working for a cleaning company in Limerick City. 

A post-mortem examination was carried out on her body and Gardaí officially launched a murder investigation. 

“[She was] well liked, very popular and had settled into Limerick well,” Mr Raleigh said. 

“I spoke to a number of people who would have been familiar with her and she was working, contributing to society and had a wide circle of friends both in the Brazilian community here in Limerick and in the native community as well. 

“Gardaí would not release details of the post-mortem, but I understand that it was clear from the scene that Ms Rosa had been stabbed to death.

A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed and an incident room opened in Henry Street Garda Station. 

“Gardaí have said they're following a definite line of inquiry in relation to this murder,”Mr Raleigh said. 

“It's understood that Gardaí are looking to speak to a man who I understand is well known to Ms Rosa and they're seeking any witnesses and information.”
