Manchester United's new signing Angel Di Maria says he was not put off by the club's struggles.

The Reds have not won a competitive match yet this season but the Argentina international says that did not deter him from completing a €75 million move from Real Madrid.

"I wanted to come here even though they are not playing Champions League. I want to help the team to win the get back in the Champions League," he said, having previously suggested that he had not wanted to leave Real Madrid.

While, the use Di Maria will be put to tactically is still unclear, manager Louis Van Gaal was praising the flexibility he offers.

"You have many class players but for me it's important that he is a team player. That is what I am liking in Di Maria. Not only class, he can accelerate the game for us," said Van Gaal.

Di Maria will wear the famous number seven shirt at Manchester United.

The Argentine international has revealed that his former Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo told him of the significance of the shirt, which has previously been worn by the likes of Eric Cantona, David Beckham and George Best.
