He may have been struggling with a mild bout of malaria leading up to the fixture, but Ghana's record goalscorer Asamoah Gyan was in enough form to score a winner deep into stoppage time against Algeria.

The former Sunderland striker collected the ball on the run and fired across goal from an angle and into the corner of the net.

It was the only goal of an intense but shot-shy match in Group C of the Africa Cup of Nations - a pool of teams billed as the Group of Death.

Ghana lost their opening group game to Senegal so this victory puts Avram Grant's side back in the mix in the hunt for a last-8 place.
