Learning the correct mechanics of running from a young age would have boosted Catherina McKiernan's career according to the former Irish distance runner.

The 44-year-old was showing Off The Ball's Ger Gilroy and Donny Mahoney how to run properly and all the while she spoke about the benefits of chi running - a form of good mechanics for running.

"It would have made my career much more enjoyable. I did get some injuries and once you get one or two injuries, you build in that fear in yourself that you're going to get another one and if I learnt to be more efficient, psychologically it would have been much more of a benefit to me, as well as physically," said McKiernan, who picked up four World Cross Country silver medals during her career, but missed the 2000 and 2004 Olympics through injury.

McKiernan highlights correct posture as a key issue in terms of minimizing injury as well as "co-operating with gravity" when running.
