An Irish bride has said she considers herself ‘lucky’, despite her wedding planner filing for insolvency after being sent €26,000 of their money.

Sorcha McManigan and her partner are due to get married in Tenerife on 19th September.

However, last Friday, they were told by email that their wedding planner had filed for insolvency.

They couple have heard nothing since then and have been left "completely in the dark”.

“We felt like we did everything right,” she recalled on Lunchtime Live

“She was 12 years in business, she had glowing reviews and we actually met her three times in person.”

Ms McManigan continued that the couple have been “saving incredibly hard for the last two years” and handed over a very large sum.

“Over the course of the two years, we sent her €26,090,” she explained.

“We can account for €1,000 of that money; we did confirm on only Monday that the venue we had booked had a deposit of €1,000 - but nothing else.”

Ms McManigan said there have been a “lot of tears” since last week, but that they have “banded together” with a number of other affected couples since the news.

“We're trying to find more people that have been affected by this because there's an amazing group that we've put together to share resources, to share knowledge, just to try and make some sense of this,” she said.

“And to also offer and support those to know that they're not alone in this, there are almost like more than 30 of us now that have come together.”

However, Ms McManigan said she is determined that she will walk down the aisle in Tenerife on 19th September.

“I am absolutely determined because all of our family and friends have paid for flights and accommodation and everything else,” she said.

“I have linked in with a new wedding planner; she is wonderful, but you know yourself, trying to fund a wedding again in four months, it's incredibly difficult.”

Despite everything, Ms McManigan said she considers herself and her partner more fortunate than many other couples.

“We're just trying to do the best we can and try and figure out a plan,” she said.

“I consider us, quote unquote, ‘the lucky ones’ because some of the brides, their weddings are this week.

“There's are brides that has a weddings in June and throughout August as well.”
