Simon Harris to replace Donohoe as Minister for Finance

Tánaiste Simon Harris will replace Paschal Donohoe as Minister for Finance, Fine Gael has announced. 

The appointment of the Dublin Central TD to the position of World Bank Managing Director has triggered a small reshuffle within the ranks of the Government’s Fine Gael Ministers. 

With Minister Harris vacating Iveagh House, Helen McEntee has been appointed as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade.

She will also serve as Minister of Defence, becoming the first woman to serve in either role. 

Speaking to the Dáil, the Tánaiste promised the reshuffle would not be a "moment of interuption" in the governance of the country.

"There will be no pause in the momentum in the business we must demonstrate in business of Government," he said.

"There is always more to do; we will meet the challenges that confront us now - just as we've done in the past."

Galway West TD Hildegarde Naughton has been promoted to Cabinet as Minister for Education. 

While Minister of State Emer Higgins becomes the new ‘Super Junior’ minister, attending Cabinet as Minister of State for Disability. 

Frank Feighan will serve as the new Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure and Infrastructure.

All Fianna Fáil and independent Ministers have retained their positions.
