The sell-out home fight saw Katie Taylor lose against British boxer Chantelle Cameron.

Ms Taylor has suffered her first career defeat against Ms Cameron on a 95-95, 96-94, 96-94 majority scorecard decision.

The unbeaten English woman defended her undisputed IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO women's super-lightweight titles, while Ms Taylor remains lightweight champion.

The result was met with shock by the 8,000 fans in the 3Arena who attended Ms Taylor’s first fight on home soil.

“It was obviously a very, very close fight,” Ms Taylor said following the match, “Not how I wanted my homecoming to go, but I’m just so grateful for the support regardless.”

Ms Taylor congratulated Ms Cameron on a “fantastic performance”.

Ms Taylor publicly challenged Ms Cameron’s to a fight on Instagram in March. Currently the undisputed lightweight champion, Ms Taylor sought to challenge Ms Cameron’s undisputed super-lightweight title.

Following her defeat, Ms Taylor said she is “looking forward to a rematch”. There is a clause for a rematch in their contract.
