Ireland's Eurovision hopeful this year says she hopes the song is well perceived by the public.

Brooke Scullion will perform in the second semi-final in the Italian city of Turin on Thursday.

She told Henry McKean for The Pat Kenny Show she's trying to keep her energy levels up.

"My voice if fine, it's just conserving energy.

"I do interviews all day and it's a singing competition at the end of day.

"But I had to speak to you because you were speaking to my family earlier, and that was adorable".

Brooke says the song is about being the hero of your own story.

"It's a female power anthem... and the costumes [are] inspired by The Powerpuff Girls, who are like my childhood heros.

"And it's all about being the hero of your own story.

"It's a really strong song, and hopefully it'll be perceived well by the public".

The Derry native notes that Northern Ireland can also vote for her song.

"Please wish me good luck, and hopefully it goes well", she says.

Brooke will perform 'That's Rich' as part of the second semi-final on Thursday.

She'll sing 10th on the night, with hopes of getting one of the 10 places in the Grand Final on Saturday.

Ukraine, which got through the first semi-final on Tuesday, is perceived as one of the favourites to win.

Ireland first entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965.

We famously won four out of five contests in the 1990s, and became the first country to win three times in a row.

Ireland has won the contest a record seven times in total.

While Canadian singer Céline Dion shot to international stardom after winning the 1988 contest for Switzerland in Dublin.
