There have been 136 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in the Republic today.

There has been one more coronavirus-related death.

Since late February, there have been 27,676 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,776 deaths.

Of the new cases, 57 are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of confirmed cases.

11 of the cases have been identified as community transmission.

51 of the new cases are in Dublin, 24 in Kildare, 12 in Kilkenny, 11 in Tipperary, seven in Cork, six in Limerick, six in Wexford and five in Meath.

The remaining 14 cases are across Carlow, Cavan, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Offaly, Roscommon, Waterford and Wicklow.

As of this morning, there were 16 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country's hospitals and six cases in intensive care.

NPHET's Professor Philip Nolan says the reproductive rate of the virus is now estimated to be around 1.2.

He said that while it's good news that it has reduced from the 1.6 rate estimated earlier this month, there's a need to 'do better' again as the virus will be able to spread reasonably quickly at the current rate.
