A woman whose daughter uses a wheelchair has said that people with ADHD do not need blue badges. 

Over in Britain, new data has revealed that thousands of people are now being issued with the coveted badges to people suffering from conditions such as ADHD and anxiety. 

The badges mean people are legally entitled to use disabled parking spaces. 

However, on Lunchtime Live, one Meath woman with ADHD, whose son has it as well, has said she does not believe people with such conditions should qualify. 

“I would not see why somebody with ADHD judging, on my experience and Noah's [needs a blue badge],” Tracy said. 

“Noah, I can tell you, is as wild as wild can get; he is as ADHD as you would find him. 

“But I would not see the need for accessible parking.”

Tracy’s daughter, Willow, is a wheelchair user and argued that far more disabled spaces are needed before they expand access to a greater number of people. 

“I can tell you now it's not accessible, we can never get a space,” she explained. 

“You could walk through 10 spaces and be sure that six to seven of them don't have a badge. 

“I've been verbally attacked, almost assaulted by addressing it with other people. 

“I had one car park attendant say to me, ‘I can't wait to get rid of these spaces, they're nothing but trouble.’” 

Tracy added that for someone with a disability, a disabled parking space is not just a matter of convenience. 

“I have to take Willow's wheelchair out of the boot - it comes in two pieces, I have to put it together,” she explained. 

“I have to open the car door as wide as possible, turn her adapted car seat out and lift her into a chair. 

“And you have bigger spaces when you have a blue badge or you have spaces.” 

When she challenges people, very often they are unpleasant to her. 

“I had one person say to me, ‘I'll f’ing and disable you if you don't f off’, as they jumped out of their BMW and ran into the shop when I asked them to move,” she said. 

“And this is all the time.”
