Leeds and Ireland legend joined us as always on a Thursday

With Tottenham playing their first official match in their state-of-the-art new stadium, we got John Giles' take on his favourite grounds to play at - apart from Elland Road.

Highbury, Goodison Park, Maine Road and Old Trafford all made his list.

But the latter was one he was more familiar with and also where fans weren't too fond of him.

The Ireland legend had left Manchester United for Leeds in 1963. And as expected, supporters of his former club no longer held him closely to their hearts.

John joined us as always on a Thursday and told us about the chant they reserved for him.

"We were playing one night and we were winning against Manchester United," he began.

"I thought they were saying 'Giles is an eejit'"

"It was a free-kick and there was a big chant: 'Giles is a reject'. I didn't know what they were singing at first.

"I knew it wasn't complimentary." You see, when I went to Leeds first, they were in the Second Division. So Manchester United went on to win the league and the Champions League while we were coming on.

"But then we got to the stage where Manchester United went off, so we did dominate them for a few years. So that's when I got most of the abuse.

"I heard them chant 'GILES IS A REJECT' and I thought they were saying, 'Giles is an eejit.'"

Laughing, John then joked he "didn't know which was best. I was pleased when I heard it was a reject".

"It wouldn't bother you anyway. That happens," he added.

John also gave his thoughts on whether Liverpool have been lucky to still be in the title race after some under-par performances. He also discussed Manchester City and Man United's respective fortunes this week.
