As cash reserves continue to increase at the Emirates Stadium, questions are being asked about why Arsene Wenger is unwilling to spend money on world class players. Financial figures released last week show that Arsenal currently lie on financial reserves of almost £193million.

The Daily Mirror's Football Correspondent John Cross who also wrote "Arsene Wenger: The Inside Story of Arsenal Under Wenger" spoke to Joe last night on Off the Ball's Football Show about Wenger's relationship with excess funds.

Cross told Joe that the key reason that Arsenal failed to buy any outfield players in the Summer transfer window was down to Wenger being unwilling to buy any player. The clubs finances were not always as healthy and Cross mentions Wenger's ability to find bargains when the Emirates Stadium was being rebuilt. That may be a reason for the Frenchman being unwilling to spend large amounts of money.

Cristiano Ronaldo was one player that Cross mentions slipped through Wenger's grasp when funds were tight in the mid 2000's. The club were close to not being able to pay players during the Invincibles season as the move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium nearly paralysed the club finacially.
