Ray Houghton believes Manchester United's recent performances suggest "they don't know what they're doing."

Analysing tonight's FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal on Off The Ball, the Ireland legend said Louis van Gaal's philosophy remains murky.

"When you're watching  Manchester United at the moment, the manager Van Gaal says he has a philosophy about how his team plays. I don't think anyone knows it. When you're watching it, you wouldn't say they're a passing team, you wouldn't say they're the type of team that tries to get it forward quickly. They're a bit of everything, really, which suggests that they don't know what they're doing. I think it was epitomised with the first goal," said Houghton, who also feels Arsenal are still a work in progress.
