A Kerry woman has described Dolly Parton’s visit to a pub in the Dingle Gaeltacht as a “very magical moment”.
The singer and songwriter died yesterday at the age of 80, leaving her millions of fans bereft at her passing.
On The Claire Byrne Show, Eibhlín Ní Chearna Sheehy recalled the Sunday evening in 1990 when the superstar dropped into Paidí Ó Sé’s pub, in the village of Ceann Trá near Dingle.
Her unexpected appearance left the local drinkers “just stunned”.
“Paidí was there on the side and she walks up and she looked around and she said, ‘Will I sing a song?’” Ms Ní Chearna Sheehy said.
“And then Aloysius handed her a microphone and she looked at Steve and she started as if they were playing together every night.
“So, she sang Coat of Many Colours, it was just unbelievably clear.
“I mean, we were all standing there [thinking] is this really true?”

Afterwards she stayed and chatted to Mr Ó Sé, who previously played football for the Kingdom, and he presented her with a Kerry jersey.
“She was excited about getting the jersey as we were that she was there,” Ms Ní Chearna Sheehy said.
“She was very, very grateful to him for getting it, so she chatted with him for a while then.
“She was a really nice down to earth woman.”
