Aston Villa have announced that their midfielder Jack Grealish is to change allegiances and commit to England at international level.

The Birmingham native represented Ireland from Under 15 to Under 21 levels, but is set to switch allegiances to England ahead of Euro 2016 in France. The 20 year old qualified to play for Ireland due to his grandparents.

The current FAI Under 21 player of the year has impressed for Aston Villa since breaking into their first team squad under Tim Sherwood. His most impressive performance came against Liverpool earlier this year in the FA Cup semi final which Aston Villa won.

The news will come as a blow to Martin O'Neill and the FAI. The Ireland manager has tried to cap Grealish at senior level since becoming manager but he failed to commit to midfielder to represent Ireland.
