The Conroy Report into the state of the SSE Airtricity League has recommended a return to a ten team top tier in time for 2017.

Declan Conroy, who was the bid leader for Dublin's Euro 2020 bid was commissioned by the FAI to produce a report on the League and give recommendations on how to improve its future. Last night at the FAI Headquarters in Abbottstown, Conroy presented his findings to the 20 League teams.

The report recommends two tiers of ten teams from 2017, with a split in the Premier Division after 27 games where the top six teams will play each other once more. A similar structure is currently in place in the Scottish Premiership.

An increase in prize money for the teams has also been mooted along with greater television coverage, which may target markets outside Ireland.
