Stephen Stack has emerged as a candidate for the Kerry senior football manager's job, backed by his very own band of Kingdom Avengers.

According to reports within the county, the Killarney Legion manager has assembled a potential backroom team laden with All Ireland medals.

The job has essentially been put out to tender, with Peter Keane having come to the end of a three-year term in charge. Kerry have won two out of three Munster titles in that time, but were beaten by Tyrone in this year's All Ireland semi-finals.

Keane remains firmly in the running to be reappointed, with his main competition appearing to have been Jack O'Connor.

The three-time All Ireland winner recently left his job with the Kildare footballers, having spoken of the "allure" of a return to Kerry.

But now Stack has emerged as a live contender, with some heavyweight backing.

1975 All Ireland-winner Mickey-Ned O'Sullivan is his proposed assistant, according to Radio Kerry's Jerry O'Sullivan.

Donie Buckley - who was a selector under O'Sullivan with Limerick - has been earmarked for a return to the set-up, having departed in 2020.

Other All Ireland-winners Seamus Moynihan would be Stack's backs coach, with Dara Ó Cinnéide working with the forwards.

Aidan O'Mahony would be part of a strength and conditioning team along with Joe O'Connor.
