Jack Grealish's decision to represent England instead of Ireland has made plenty of headlines this week, and Roy Hodgson's comments today confirmed that he felt the young Aston Villa star made the right call.

Speaking about Grealish's availability, he warned that he's not guaranteed a place in the team simply because he's pledged his allegiance to the Three Lions.

However, he did say that "I think he has got the talent to be an England player, he has a lot of work today before that day is concreted - but I was happy that in a choice between the two countries he took the bolder decision to try and be an England international".

There was a little bit of an edge to some of Hodgson's words however, when he stated that "frankly he is English having met him and his father, it is an English family albeit with fairly distant Irish roots".

He further underlined that there would be no fast-track for the Solihull-born player to get into the England squad ahead of the Euros, and that "what matters now is how he does for Aston Villa – he has got to play well enough now to make sure he gets into the England squad".
