It was a frustrating night for Liverpool and Tottenham in the Europa League this evening, as both sides coughed up leads to slump to 1-1 draws.

At Anfield, Brendan Rodgers' side got off to the best possible start when Adam Lallana fired home in the fifth minute to give Liverpool the lead and thoughts of a second consecutive victory were on the cards.

These dreams were short lived, however, when Ebenezer Assifuah punished some sloppy defending from the home side to draw his side level.

Liverpool, who started with Danny Ings instead of the recovering Daniel Sturridge, then had the best of the chances in the second half, with Daniel Origi going closest but squandered a huge chance with half an hour to go.

Credit to the Sion FC defence who were resilient and full value for their away point.

To sunnier climes, Tottenham were made to share the points as they drew 1-1 with Monaco.

The Ligue 1 side fell behind after 35 minutes, when the in-form Erik Lamela scored for the visitors.

Spurs continued to show a threat up front as they hit Monaco on the counter-attack, but with nine minutes remaining their concentration dropped and allowed Stephan El Shaarawy to snatch a valuable point.

Elsewhere tonight, Celtic threw away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Turkish side Fenerbache, Borussia Dortmund drew 1-1 away to minnows PAOK Thessaloniki FC ahead of their huge clash with Bayern Munich and Ajax were held 1-1 away to Norwegian side Molde.
