Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says there is no truth in reports that Mario Balotelli's brief stay at the club is coming to an end.

The controversial Italian striker has not started a game since November 8th and has missed their last three games altogether.

Rodgers admits it has been a "difficult period" for Balotelli, but says he could yet return to the side.

"Players who have been out of the fold for various reasons, if they work hard every day in training and show intensity and focus, then they have every chance of getting back into the team. Not only back into the team, but staying there. So the opportunity is there," said Rodgers.

The Liverpool boss has Daniel Sturridge available for selection again ahead of the Capital One Cup return tie against Chelsea on Tuesday.
