It was a disappointing day for Paul Dunne, who carded four consecutive birdies but couldn't eradicate his mistakes to card a level par third round at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The Greystones rookie got off to a blistering start, carding an eight-under par opening round and posting a score of two-under yesterday.

Today looked as though he might continued his challenge on the summit, posting five birdies and as many bogeys to slip back to 13th in the leaderboard.

The 22-year-old started the day one shot off the lead, but his inconsistency means he sits seven back now behind leader, Thorbjorn Olesen.

The Denmark native carded a seven-under 65 to move three clear at the summit.

Eight birdies marked a card blemished by a solitary bogey and the 25-year-old is in pole position to land just his third European Tour victory.

Germany’s Florian Fritshch, is Olesen’s closest pursuer in second spot on 14-under.
