Real Madrid's 16-year-old prodigy missed last night's 2-0 win away to Malmo in the Champions League and Martin Odegaard must now be wondering what he's done wrong to land himself in footballing limbo.

After signing for the Spanish giants in January on the deal in the region of £2.3 million from Norwegian side Stromsgodset, Odegaard has faded into the background since the arrival of Rafael Benitez.

Making his professional debut at the age of 15, he was given his first senior run-out in La Liga in last season's 7-3 victory over Getafe.

Since then he has yet to to make an appearance for the senior team and will remain a part of Zinedine Zidane's Castilla side.

Benitez has opted for youth in his side, however, with 18-year-old Borja Mayoral and 20-year-old Marcos Llorente included in the squad during last night's Group A victory, where Cristiano Ronaldo leveled Raul as the clubs all-time leading goalscorer record.
