Manchester City has strengthened their defence ahead of the end of the transfer window with the signing of Nicolas Otamendi on a five year deal.

The 27 year old joins the ever increasing Argentine population at the Etihad Stadium and he joins a defence alongside Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis along with striker Sergio Aguero. Otamendi was part of Argentina's Copa America squad this summer as the team reached the final before losing to hosts Chile. He will wear the number 30 shirt for the league leaders.

Otamendi joins the club from Valencia, where he was named in last years La Liga team of the season. Despite reports that Eliaquim Mangala was to move to Valencia on loan as part of the deal, he is to stay at the club. The two players previously played together at Porto.

Speaking to Manchester City's official website, Otamendi said; "I am here to give my best, to fight game by game and push City to the highest peaks for as long as possible, and I wish we will be able to win several cups and titles. That’s the most important. To be here inside a club that looks so wonderful from the outside is a dream".

Otamendi is now in line to make his debut for Manchester City against Everton in Goodison Park on Sunday.
