John Giles believes Manchester United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward "messed up" as the club lost out on sealing a deal for Pedro, who has chosen Chelsea.

United had long been linked with the now ex-Barcelona player, only to see him switch to Stamford Bridge instead.

John was on Off The Ball and the Leeds and Ireland legend feels United squandered a chance to bring in a player they wanted.

"Manchester United have messed up, I think Woodward has messed up from Manchester United's point of view because the things coming out is he's saying Van Gaal changed his mind. Well, why did he go over to Barcelona last week to sign Pedro. It doesn't make sense," he said and he added that "my take is that Mourinho didn't really want Pedro and that he believes Van Gaal "really did want Pedro".

John also feels that if there are deep problems at Chelsea at present, they were created by manager Jose Mourinho and was surprised by the decision to substitute captain John Terry in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City because the defender was not playing that badly.

The former West Brom boss also believes the Baggies' striker Saido Berahino is worth £25M amid interest from Tottenham.

"If Sterling can go for £50M, this lad is worth at least £25M," said John.
