Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has targeted an improvement in his side's defence as they look to come through their current slump.

The Anfield side have won only one of their last six matches culminating in the surprise 3-2 home defeat to Swansea last time out.

Liverpool are missing the impressive Sadio Mane to the African Cup of Nations while defender Joel Matip is currently unavailable due to technical complications involving the same tournament.

Speaking to the media on the current situation, Klopp said: “we are a big club, it is not allowed to say you miss one player.

“It’s not about one player. We really have to do better as a defensive unit. That was one of the things we discussed in our long meeting after the Swansea game, and I think we are all ready for the rest of the season now.

"The feeling around the club is not quite as positive as it was, and it’s our job to bring that positivity back," he added.

Liverpool entertain Southampton on Wednesday in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit. They then welcome Wolves to Anfield on Saturday in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

League leaders Chelsea then travel to Merseyside the following Tuesday.
