Neymar has had €42.3 million worth of assets frozen after a judge in his home country opened investigations into alleged tax evasion.

The judge has accused Neymar of not paying all taxes owed between 2011 and 2013, and has frozen 188 million reais, which is worth just over €42,270,000.

The order covers property and cars owned by the superstar footballer, and is a preventative measure aimed at ensuring that the assets are not sold before the investigation is complete.

Judge Carlos Muta accused him of "omitting sources of income from abroad" during the aforementioned period, and Barcelona were named as the source of the payments.

While he will still have access to his bank accounts, the size of the seizure covers not only the missed payments but also the possibility that there would be fines applied and interest owed as a result.
