James Ryan says Rory Best has been an inspiration leader for Ireland’s Six Nations Grand Slam winning team.

The 21-year-old says the skipper was a key figure in keeping the team grounded ahead of yesterday’s crucial 24-15 win in Twickenham.

Ireland’s Grand slam winning team returned back to a hero’s reception in a Dublin hotel this afternoon.

Ryan praised the captain after the Ulsterman claimed his second Grand Slam title. The Irish captain was on the bench in Cardiff when Ireland claimed their second Grand Slam in 2009.

“I think we’ve an amazing skipper in Rory. You know, obviously this is my first season but he just leads so well. When he speaks, he just gives confidence to the group. So, I think we are very luck to have someone like that as a leader,’ said Ryan.

Ryan says the team took their preparation one week at a time. He added that he didn’t think there were any indications the team were destined to win the Championship, and the Grand Slam.

“We took it week by week, and we managed to get four out of four and then focused on England.”

Ireland claimed just their third Grand Slam title in London yesterday.
