Have you booked your accommodation for the Ryder Cup next year?
The world famous gold tournament will take place at Adare Manor, County Limerick and much of the accommodation has already been snapped up.
On the tournament’s official rental property portal, the cheapest available is a one bedroom house in Tipperary for rent at €2,688 a week.
While the most expensive of the 770 properties is a nine bedroom castle which can be rented for €99,000.
On Lunchtime Live, Clare Airbnb owner Lorna admitted there are some “mad prices”. However, she urged people to look around.
“I actually went on this morning onto the booking platforms and I had a look and there seems to be a huge number of properties which are advertising in and around the €10,000 mark,” she said.
“But when you actually break that down for the size of the property and the number of guests that it can accommodate, it's actually very good value for money.
“It probably works out at around €300 per person per night.
“But because these are entire units people will be able to utilise the kitchens. It's very, very good value.”
Lorna continued many people would be booking accommodation far away from Limerick and travelling in and out during the competition.
“They would prefer to be in cities and they will be literally helicoptered in and out of Adare or they will have drivers,” she said.
“So, the demand for accommodation is stretching far and wide.
“It's not just in and around Limerick and Clare or Tipperary.”
While she cannot say for certain how much extra she will make next year, Lorna believes most people who operate short-term lets will charge roughly double their typical price.
“I would say so,” she said.
“But I can't confirm that because I don't know.
"People are advertising for €30 and €40,000 and plus.
"I don't know whether they will get that - maybe they are? But would you pay that for a week's accommodation?"
