Ana Ivanovic and Angelique Kerber  are the early big names to crash out of the Australian Open.

Ninth seed Kerber is out after going down 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 to world number 42 Irina Begu in the  first round.

Ivanovic of Serbia lost to Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic. 

Ivanovic won the first set, 6-1 but lost the next two 6-3, 6-2.

In the men's singles, Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray won their matches.
