Iain Henderson could be a doubt for Ireland's November International Series.
The 22-year-old Ulster forward has been told that he will require surgery on a hip injury that is set to delay his start to the new season.
Some reports are suggesting that he may not be available to return to action until the start of the new year with Ireland due to play host to South Africa, Georgia and Australia this November.
The lock has 12 caps for Ireland.
In a further blow to Ulster who salvaged a draw at Scarlets on Saturday, Jared Payne also has a hip problem and he is expected to be out for at least two weeks.
