Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood says he is confident that Jack Grealish will grow out of his irresponsible off-field behaviour.

The teenage attacking midfielder has been the subject of several tabloid headlines during the summer, including a photo of the player passed out drunk on a street in Tenerife.

Grealish is close to a return to the team after recovering from injury and Sherwood says that he believes he can bring the best out of the teenager.

"I love him to death and I hate him at the same time! I want to nurture him to fulfil his full potential. He did annoy me in the summer, but he annoyed himself. Hopefully the penny has dropped with him," he said.

"Young kids make mistakes. But they come through it. He’s a one-off and he’s a one-off on the pitch.He’s come through it and we need to move on."
