Former Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has been charged with two counts of tax fraud in Spain.

He now plays for Barcelona, and has been accused of defrauding tax authorities of more than €1.5M.

The Argentina international paid the money owed plus almost €200K of interest earlier this month, and has refused to comment on the allegations.

His Barca team-mate Neymar had assets frozen as part of a tax evasion probe, while Lionel Messi has also been at the centre of a tax investigation.
