Ex-Ireland and Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney feels Duncan Ferguson's handling of Moise Kean is a sign of inexperience.

Everton cult hero and current interim manager Ferguson substituted his 19-year-old striker less than 20 minutes before bringing him on against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Ferguson also deigned to acknowledge Kean as the Italian left the field-of-play, before the latter walked straight towards the tunnel.

After the match, the Scot claimed that his decision to substitute the substitute was not personal and that he was trying to waste time.

Speaking on Off The Ball, Delaney feels the episode highlights Ferguson's inexperience.

"When you look at the decision he made with Moise Kean, bringing him on and taking him off, they're not the traits of an experienced manager," he said.

"If you look at Moise Kean's performance on merit, he didn't deserve to be taken off. I mean, he wasn't fantastic.

Emotional Guy

"But if that's where Duncan Ferguson is setting the bar, then he's going to run out of substitutions in the first 20 minutes of every game. He's still an emotional guy."

Delaney feels that perhaps Kean represents the "anti-Duncan Ferguson" in his approach to the game. However, even in that light, he feels Ferguson was wrong.

"You can't go down that road. If he doesn't like him, then he shouldn't have brought him on. He should have just left him on the bench and got somebody else on," he said.

"So they're not the traits of an experienced manager that's managing off logic rather than emotion. That emotion will only get you so far."

After watching the highlights, Delaney picked up on the interactions between Kean and Ferguson after the Italian came on.

"Duncan Ferguson is shouting at him from the touchline the minute he got on," said the Corkman.

"So that either tells me that Duncan Ferguson's really, really upset with him or he hasn't given him the instructions or there's been a breakdown somewhere."
