Prop Dave Kilcoyne will return to full training this week in what will be a boost for both the provincial and national coaching teams.

The loosehead injured his ankle just seven minutes into Munster’s Pro14 clash with Leinster in August, their first match back after the Covid-19 layoff.

The injury ruled Kilcoyne of the rest of the delayed Six Nations campaign and Ireland's mixed Autumn Nations Cup.

The Munster squad returned to training on Monday ahead of Saturday’s Guinness PRO14 clash against Leinster at Thomond Park, that game gets underway at 7.35pm.

Peter O’Mahony's participation in that game following his removal from the match against Clermont Auvergne with a head injury, will depend on how he emerges from following the return to play protocols.

Centre Alex McHenry is recovering from surgery on a  thumb injury and will also return to training this week.

Jeremy Loughman returned to action in Friday night’s Munster A victory over Leinster A at Thomond Park.

The team to face Leinster will be named on Thursday.

High profile injuries

Despite the brilliant win in the Heineken European Champions Cup away to Clermont Auvergne, the southern province still have many high profile injury problems, including both outside halves Joey Carberry and Ben Healy.

Unavailable: Matt Gallagher (shoulder) RG Snyman (knee) Neil Cronin (knee) Joey Carbery (ankle) James Cronin (abdomen), Ben Healy (shoulder).

Leinster have some injury concerns too with Garry Ringrose suffering a fresh jaw injury against Northampton Saints ruling him out of the clash.

Rhys Ruddock injured his ribs in the game and will be further assessed this week before a final decision is made, as will Harry Byrne who was withdrawn very late in the warm-up from the starting XV with a back issue.

While in some positive injury news for Leinster both Ed Byrne and Jack Conan will both return to full training this week from calf and neck injuries respectively.
