Sepp Blatter has decided to put himself up for re-election as president of world football's governing body FIFA.

The 78-year-old had previously stated he would step down when his fourth spell in the role comes to an end next year.

However, Blatter says he changed his mind once he realised UEFA president Michel Platini was not going to challenge him.

"Before, during and after the World Cup, he has confirmed that he would not be a candidate but he did say that there would be somebody who 'will be contesting you,'" said Blatter.

The man who has led FIFA since 1998 went on to say that a show of support at a June meeting of the FIFA Congress in Sao Paulo convinced him to seek another term.

Former FIFA adviser Jerome Champagne is the only other candidate to have definitely put his name in the hat so far.
