Just when you thought it was safe to watch current affairs news programmes again....

'Newsnight' presenter Kirsty Wark danced to the Michael Jackson song 'Thriller' to close the show last Halloween night.

As she told viewers to 'be careful out there', the programme took a spooky - and at times awkward-looking - turn

The show also went on to tweet, thanking the dancers who took part.

But this is not the first time the flagship BBC 2 programme has stepped outside its comfort zone. Early in October, a fictional children's character joined the show for a live interview.

'Sesame Street' characters Cookie Monster and Elmo are set to star in a new programme for the children's station of the BBC, and the Cookie Monster character was given the last word to end the show.

For a show that describes itself as a "comprehensive coverage of the day's important national and international news stories", it is certainly pushing those boundaries.
