Roscommon boss John Evans says a break in training may have given his side the energy levels to beat Mayo in Castlebar yesterday.

The Rossies lost to NUIG last week but made amends by defeating the four-in-a-row Connacht champions 2-12 to 1-10 on their own turf, and thus qualify for the FBD League final against Galway next Sunday.

"We've been training very, very hard," Evans told Willie Hegarty of Shannonside FM. "Last Sunday we were after something like 20 sessions out of 24 - consecutive, like. So the lads were really, really tired.

"We cut back the training a small bit and we said we'd freshen it up a small bit and give them a bit of energy I suppose more than anything else."

Evans also reckoned his side could have got more goals, was delighted to keep Mayo to two scores from play, and admitted his panel is getting stronger.
