New Waterford manager Tom McGlinchey admits beating his native Cork in the McGrath Cup is “huge” for the Deise footballers.
A shock 0-8 to 0-7 victory over the Rebels wouldn't have been on many an observer's radar prior to the throw-in at Clashmore over the weekend, but having already beaten CIT and UL, Waterford are looking forward to a decider against UCC Fraher Field in Dungarvan next Saturday (6.0pm).
"You need a bit of belief," McGlinchey said. "To beat a team like Cork is huge for them players. Someone said to me it was 1957 since [Waterford] beat Cork last. Paddy Joe Ryan the chairman said he never say Waterford beat Cork in a competitive game.
"So that just goes to show you what kind of a victory it was."
