Bill Murray has added another entry to the library of odd moments that makes him one of the most loved film stars of the modern era. To mark 'Bill Murray Day' at the Toronto Film Festival, Murray told the story of him, a California tax driver and a midnight saxophone recital would be bizarre by the standards of most film stars, but Murray has fine previous form. (You can read that story here)

Here 5 of our favourite Bill Murray moments

1. At the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, Bill Murray visited a bar, decided he wanted to work behind the bar and then, no matter what people ordered, he poured them a shot of tequila.

2. When a group of fans asked Murray for an autograph he refused. Not because he didn’t want to, he just thought it was a bit impersonal. So instead he filmed a slow motion walk video with them. And here it is.

3. Murray has created a mythology around himself and crashing parties. He did the washing up at a house party in Edinburgh, he popped into a stag do and gave a speech to the best man, he went to a karaoke bar with complete strangers. In fact, there are so many “Bill Murray randomly turns up at a party...” stories that they’ve spawned an entire website of Murray Mythology.

4. If you want to reach Bill for a movie role you have to leave a message at an 800 number for a voicemail mailbox. The person pitching Murray the idea will leave a message, and may, or may not, hear back. Why? Because Murray doesn’t have an agent and doesn’t want the usual hassles associated with the business side of Hollywood.

5. Bill Murray was stopped by police in Stockholm when they caught him driving down the road in a golf cart late at night. Here he tells David Letterman about his adventure.
