Today, August 1st is the anniversary of music television.

Not the first time music was heard on television but MTV.

Launching in the United States on 1 August 1981, and coming to Europe six year later, on 1 August 1987, at a time when an Irish band was arguably the biggest in the world.

The station launched Irish media careers - and even brought the MTV Awards to Dublin’s Point Depot at a time when anything Irish was in big demand.

Donal Fallon joined Gavan for another episode of Hidden Histories to discuss.
