"My son has global development delay, but there's no support, and I cannot afford to go private"

Now last week we heard from the mother of Thormod Mac Fhinn; he’s a five year boy from Ballbriggan who has autism.

Just before Christmas his mother received a letter from the HSE informing her that her son must wait until November 2023 for psychological supports, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy.

And as it turns out, Helen Ni Riains family are not alone, as hundreds of families across the country are actually in similar positions when it comes to supports for children with autism.

And our reporter Barry Whyte has been speaking to some of the families impacted…..
